Manually Updating My iPad air

I am trying to manually update my iPad Air because it will not let me update to the latest version of IOS. I got iTunes and connected my tablet to my computer (with my charger) now I am on iTunes with my device there and am on the General settings screen. Now I am pressing the “check for update” button but it won’t do anything. Help..?

No update available for ipad air My ipad states that it is up to date but it is only at 12.5.1, it isn’t showing me an update is needed. Any ideas? Itunes is not giving me the option to do it through them either.

Updating an iPad Air 2 beyond iOS 12.5.4 I have an iPad Air 2 that is stuck on iOS 12.5.4. I just purchased this iPad used. My daughter has the exact same model which automatically installed 14.6 or whatever the newest one is. I have connected this other iPad to iTunes via cable to manually update but it claims to be up to date. How can I unstick this iPad Air 2 to update beyond iOS 12.5.4?

The original 2013, 1st generation iPad Air cannot upgrade beyond iOS 12.4.x.
