Why is my music not backing up

Why is my music not backing up and always going into downloads. I have 256gb on my iPhone and 2TB of storage I buy every month for my iPad and my Mac and we haven’t gone near THAT!

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13

Your music goes into downloads so you can listen to it offline, and it never stops to load over cellular data. It also goes into the cloud so it can be synced and downloaded on all your devices. You can turn off automatic downloads in Settings>Music

I have something similar.

First, can you see the iPhone in iTunes? I cannot. If you check System Information (Apple in the Menu Bar + Option), you'll be able to see if the iPhone is seen by the computer as connected to USB. Mine is connected, but not seen by iTunes.

Went to the Apple Store, where they were able to replicate this issue of the iPhone not coming up in iTunes.

My iPhone did connect when hooked-up to a MacBook Pro running 10.14 (Mojave), so if you can upgrade, that will likely solve your issue.
