lost photos - iCloud Storage

I've been paying monthly for 50GB of iCloud storage where all of my important photos and videos are saved. I cancelled the subscription last month thinking I didn't need it but then realised all of my photos would potentially be lost without it. I resubscribed and I have now just gone to look at my photos and the majority of my photos and videos have been deleted. I have tried to log into iCloud on desktop to look at photos to restore them but it isn't allowing me to see them. Does anyone know how I can retrieve my photos/videos? They're extremely important to me and I really need them back. Thanks
