iPod isn’t restoring, iPod software update server can’t be contacted

I recently bought an old iPod, and since I didn’t happen to understand you need to use iTunes, I used file explorer to manually copy my songs onto my iPod. Pc said “Removable disc F: needs to be formatted”, I did, not knowing that’d delete everything ON the iPod. So after it “formatted”, I copyed the songs onto my iPod using file explorer, unplugged it, and it went right away to saying iPod needs to be restored with iTunes. Now, my computer uses Windows 7 Home edition Service pack 1, so when I tried to download iTunes off the Microsoft store, it spat out saying no signed in devices compatible or something. Checked and saw it needs win10. So next i checked and saw on some forums that the most recent version of iTunes supported on Windows 7 is version 9.0.2. I used oldversion(dot)com and downloaded iTunes version 9.0.2 64bit, did setup, etc,.

It immediately recognized my iPod was “in recovery mode” and I clicked restore, however I got this message after about 2 seconds: “The iPod software update server could not be contacted.”

I have tried resetting the iPod.

I have a few ideas as to why this is happening:

-The iPod is extremely old (I think)

-I’m not using a recent version of iTunes

-My Internet is quite slow. About 25 Kilobytes per second/ ~220Kbps.

Tell me if you need the serial number of iPod.
