Maps constantly checking location since Catalina upgrade

Since the upgrade to Catalina (which went smooth), I keep seeing the location icon pop up in the menu bar exactly once every minute. It stays there for about 10 seconds then disappears. It reappears in the next minute.

If I click the icon while it's visible, it says Apps Using Location: Maps. However, Maps is not running.

I know this has been asked before but it seems that there is no response or answer yet. Anyone have any thoughts on this please?? I do use maps occasionally so don't really want to turn off maps location services.
