Maps application bugs in iPad

Good day all.
For past few days "Maps" application, on my iPad, closes down whenever I start typing the first letter of an address or location search.
How can I restore proper functioning of that application?
In advance, thks for help and counsels.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Mac OS X 10.6.2 iPhoto 7.1.5 iTunes 9.0.3 iPhone 3.1.3

Actually it's not just one specific letter but every 26 letters of the alphabet or any of the 10 numbers from 1 to 0
That immediately, when typed in the search function, that cause the immediate closing of the "Maps" application.
I even, foolishly.., tried typing in picture and/or portrait positions but any use of the iPad virtual keyboard seems to to bug the application closing it down...
