Trying to restore a new iPad for which I do not know the passcode

I am having trouble resetting this iPad back to factory defaults using itunes. Downloads an update and then stops

Put it in recovery mode and restore not update read here If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
