Only one of my airpods is charging and I can't tell until I use them.

Check for crud in the charging well, and check for crud on the contacts of the AirPods earpieces.

If you have access to another set, try swapping parts and see where (or if) the problem moves.

The local Apple Store will possibly also be useful for a look at this, if you can’t resolve this.
