why is the finder so slow to register new files?

i have a 2012 Macbook Pro.

i am using the Mojave 10.14.6 OS.

I am wondering why is the finder so slow in registering new files saved in a folder?

Example: I save a picture off the internet to a specific folder. I try to open it in preview. The File > Open dialog box does not show the new file in the folder. I wait and wait and wait, 10, 15, 20 seconds... it finally appears. What is with that?

The folder I am saving to is a folder in my iCloud heirarchy. Is this why it is so slow? Because it is connected to iCloud? I have pretty fast broadband connection; that is not an issue.

Because your Mac is old and you're probably still using a spinning hard drive instead of a SSD as your main storage. Take a look at the videos on OWC's SSDs for older Macbook Pros at:

Actually, it has nothing to do with old spinning drives, because earlier OS's than Mojave had no problem with files showing up instantly in the finder. Spinning drives take milliseconds to find things, not 20 seconds. This is either an iCloud issue or some kind of file-indexing bloatware that Apple has introduced with the new OSX systems.

(actually, this model has an SSD, so that's ruled out)
