After I did an installation of mojave successfully, it has been booting for close to 3hours now... please I want to know if it's copying my files to the OS or it's an error?.. Cos my files is close to 400gb on a 500gb hdd.

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities> Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

If no errors were found, you can reninstall the macOS on top of your existing macOS—

3 hour is a long time.
You can force quit the machine holding the power button/touchID ~10 sec. to force a shut down.
Reboot and see where it leaves you. Most times it boots up fine that second time around.

I did the force shutdown, but it stops at the same place.
