ATT|Uverse WiFi

I am suddenly not able to access my personal website files on my Mac Pro using localhost. The browser says to try loading the page again. When I do this, an ATT|Uverse page appears saying that the problem has been resolved and to close the browser and try again. Same result.

I have have never had this happen before.

Is is this a Mac Pro computer problem? A browser problem? Or an ATT|Uverse router problem?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Actually I think it does. I contacted ATT|Uverse and it turns out my router which connects all my devices to WiFi and the internet has been “retired” unbeknownst to me until now. This means firmware updates weren’t being made to the router. They are sending me a new router, which I have to connect in place of the old one. The support guy thinks this is the reason why my desktop localhost webserver is not available. I will report back when the change is made. Fingers crossed.

In support of MrHoffman's statement above:

The underlying concept is that the box they provide has two devices inside: one provides a Switch function, based on settings, that sends packets intended for local use directly to local devices without Routing. The simplest example of this is packets for your local Network printer, which would have a similar, but not identical IP address to your computer.

The second is the better-know Router function, where packets that OBVIOUSLY are intend for the Internet are presented to the Internet 'on your behalf'. These packets are inspected and their source is changed so that they appear to her come from your Router (using a technique called Network Address Translation). Suffice it to say this process is sufficiently complex that local packets should never be leaving your local Network, but should be SWITCHED along to other devices on your local Network only.
