Sidecar Freezing Then Crashing My Mac

Why does Sidecar continually crash my new MacBook Air 2019 16GB 1.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5? It freezes and then sometimes comes back to its senses or sometimes it reboots. I'm using a cable connection (a genuine Apple USB C cable) to an iPad Pro 12.9

I have two other MacBooks I could test - a 13" Pro and a 15" Pro - but I'm not going to since a) I shouldn't have to and b) this MacBook Air is the one I travel with.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, and I understand there are issues with Sidecar where it unexpectedly stops responding. I'll do what I can to help.

Here are some suggestions:

Since you're using a cable, make sure the iPad is set to trust your Mac: About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't already, be sure to back up then update both the MacBook Air and the iPad Pro to the latest versions:
- Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- How to update the software on your Mac
Restart both devices and try Sidecar again:
- Restart iPad
- Restart your Mac from the Apple () menu then Restart.
