ipad crash

I have had instances of my ipad becoming unresponsive when i attempt to open a windows based file using the ipad apple mail feature. for example, when i attempt to open a microsoft power point attached file using the default apple mail app. This does not happen when I use the microsoft mail app.

NOW i was in the process of opening a microsoft power point app using the apple mail app and my ipad screen went totally blank. Attempt to do a hard reset - holding down one of the volume key and left side button yields nothing.. so for all intent and purpose my ipad is in-operatable. SOMEONE Help pls!!

Thank you zmclearan. I was able to get the screen to work again by pressing down and releasing the volume increase key, doing the same for the volume down key and then holding down then holding down the power button till the apple sign came up. I would contact Microsoft support for assistant re their apps working well with apple mail app as suggested if the problem still continues...
