apple superdrive

I have an apple superdrive optical drive that I use on my imac. I want to also be able to use it on my windows 10 machine. , When I plug it in, the windows 10 machine recognizes it but it will not draw the disc in, I rechecked it on the imac and it works perfectly. Are there drivers available and if yes, please give me detailed instructions on how to use as I am not the sharpest tack in the box.

Thanks

There are drivers for Windows. That is how a Superdrive is supported in Bootcamp/Windows on Macs with built-in or external SuperDrives.

Thank you, I thouht there would be so those running bootcamp would nt have to buy 2 dvd drives. Oh, well

You're welcome. I assumed you were talking about an actual Windows 10 computer not Windows 10 running in Boot Camp. Any Apple driver for Boot Camp would not be understood on a Windows machine.

As long as there is compatible hardware, BC drivers will work on a Windows PC. I install drivers on PCs for users who prefer to use Apple peripherals, e.g., Keyboards, Mice, Superdrives, etc.,. Some BC5.x and BC6.x drivers will work on Windows PCs.

That is what i was hoping. But 2 questions

Can i download and run that driver directly from my windows pc or do i have to download it to a usb stick from my imac first?

The info says it supports win 7, 8. And 8.1 but does not mention win 10. Will it work on win 10?

THANK YOU

Yes. The reason to recommend a USB was so you could use it more than once.

Yes. It will. You can also look for the same driver on BC6.x packages. Newer packages (e.g. 2018 rMBP) no longer have this driver.

Do i do the initial download on my mac rather than the pc?

Since the link is a Download, on Windows, it should be a .zip file.

When the option comes up as. SAVE or RUN, WHICH DO I CHOOSE (Im guessing run)

SAVE. You do not want to run setup.exe meant for a Mac on a Windows PC. Your goal is to only run the AppleODDInstaller64.exe.
