Apple Music-Family Sharing

Since I signed up for Apple Music and upgraded to Family Sharing, I now get billed $14.99/mo. However, my girlfriend, the only other person or unit on the account, also gets charged $12.99/mo. Furthermore, I see in my iTunes Library 2243 songs, while her iTunes Library only has 567 songs. So, my 2 questions are: 1) am I correct that she is getting extra-charged and shouldn't be charged at all each month for Apple Music, and 2) how can I get our 2243 songs on to her iPhone (and thereby her CarPlay)? I have tried several times to connect her to the Mac that stores are iTunes Library and 'move' or 'sync' the songs over, and It fails every time. Thanks all for your help!

You're most welcome. I'm glad I could help. Now let's figure out this playlist issue.

By default, the songs in the playlist stay separate from the main library. If she wants to add each song to her library, some settings may need a change. Have her try the following:

-To save playlists to the library, find the playlist, then tap Add.

-Open Settings.

-Scroll down and tap Music.

-Turn on Add Playlist Songs.

The songs should make it to the library. If the issue persists after giving that a try, please reach out here for additional support: Contact Apple Support

Hi Jeremy,

thank you so much for your help! your guidance helped me remove the extra charge on my girlfriend's iPhone and finally got her into my Family Share. She now comes up on my iPhone under Family Sharing and I saw the emails and messages.

Unfortunately, when I tried to load my 2240 songs to her phone, even after clicking the right settings on my iPhone and her iPhone, her iPhone stubbornly stayed at 561 songs. I shut It down and turned It back on...no change. I backed her up to the Cloud, thinking that she would pick up the music that I had backed up to the Cloud...no change. I connected her directly via USB to my Mac laptop and pulled up my iTunes, confirmed there were 2240 songs in the Library, then synched her...no change. then, I synched only Music...no change. I tried to pull up specific songs on her iPhone that are on my iPhone, and they weren't there on hers...no change.

I'm frustrated or stupid. I can't figure this out at all. I bet It is a simple setting that is wrong. I even pulled up on her iPhone my Playlist Entire 2, which was my having put 1687 songs on a Playlist. The Playlist is listed under Playlists on her phone, but none of the songs come up and the total does not go up from 561 songs in General>About.

Unfortunately, after following all the steps you listed (and thank you for that), It still did not work. She still does not have the 2250 songs on her iPhone, simply 761 (which is more than the 567 she started with). I don't know what to do. I think we are going to have to go to the Apple Store and get an appointment for them to look at her phone.

It’s great to have you in the Apple Support Communities! I gather that you're wanting to determine why your girlfriend is still being charged that amount each month, and you'd like to figure out how to share the songs you see in your Sync Library that don’t appear on her iPhone. It's going to be my pleasure to help out.

If you've already sent her an invite and she's joined Family Sharing, there shouldn't be an extra charge for music.

If someone in the family group already has an individual or student subscription to Apple Music, renewal of that subscription is automatically canceled when they join the family group.

Get an Apple Music family subscription

Tap Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Family. Can you confirm that she accepted invitation? If so, make sure you’re sharing the Apple Music Family subscription on your iPhone by following the steps in the section "Review your Family Sharing settings" here: If you don't see your family's shared content

It might also be a good idea to have her check for any active subscriptions on her iPhone by following the steps here: If you see apple.com/bill, itunes.com/bill, or an unfamiliar charge on your statement

Apple IDs are personal accounts to access Apple services so it would be expected behavior that the music in your Sync Library doesn't appear in your girlfriend's Sync Library.

Family Sharing

If you purchase music in the iTunes Store, you can definitely share that using the steps here: Share App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books purchases with Family Sharing This wouldn't apply to music in the Apple Music catalog.

If there's certain music that you would really like her to have, you can create and share an Apple Music playlist. Another option is to set up a profile that shares your shared playlist and the songs you listen to. Once it's created, she can follow you.
