MacBook Pro Touch Bar partially blacked out.

I’m having the same problem as described in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7796212

The right side of the Touch Bar blacks out. Touching the bar reveals the volume bar but as soon as I close it the Touch Bar goes black on the right-most couple inches.

I reset the SMC per Apple’s directions and it temporarily fixed the problem but it has reappeared.

Hi there, gferguson.

I see that you're having a problem with the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro. Part of it isn't backlit. Good job on finding a solution to your problem, but apparently it hasn't worked as expected. I'm glad to help with this.

I'd recommend using the resources below to reset NVRAM and reset the SMC again on your Mac.

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac -- There are several different ways to reset the System Management Controller on a Mac and it depends on which model of Mac you're using. Review the information in this article and reset the System Management Controller following the directions for your Mac, then test the issue.

You may also want to try starting your Mac in safe mode and testing for the issue there: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Let me know how that goes, and take care!
