Slow network file transfers ONLY on Macos
Hey Guys,
So I have a Qnap NAS - i always thought file transfers seemed slow when moving files to it, over a wireless network... even though i have a super powered router, and substantially powered NAS.
I get about 10-13mbps - with loaddddssss of glitches where it seems to stop for several seconds before going again
I run bootcamp on my iMac, and the other day I was on the windows partition, and happened to need to send a file across so I simply opened up the network part of "My Computer" selected the NAS, entered my credentials, connected and sent the file. (What i am explaining here, is that I did nothing special to my connection)
I was getting over double the speed consistently... 30-40mbps
So... is this going to be yet another major black mark against the ever growing list of black marks in my personal windows vs Mac battle. Or, have i perhaps set something up wrong on the MacOs side? I don't know much about this, but I do know the Mac is configured to use SMB. I guess that happened by default.
What makes this interesting, is that naturally, the test is ran on the exact same hardware... so it is 100% a software issue - ruling out all the hardware required to make file transfers possible.
edit: I also want to add that connecting to the NAS via windows was so fast. And double clicking into folders just loaded in an instant. On my MacOS, when i click the network folder (that i have made a favourite inside finder) it takes about 2 seconds to load with a very visual "loading" feeling. And double clicking a folder takes a few seconds too.
I am on an iMac 2016 - Mojave.
Cheers :-)
