Cannot refresh “Find my iPhone”

Has anyone found a way to force a location refresh on “Find my iPhone” in iOS 13.3? I used to be able to do it on older versions of iOS, but the refresh button has been taken away. Now I have to wait up to 5 minutes before a refresh occurs, which is not useful when you want to see if your kids made it to class on time. Can we bring that button back please? Or does anyone have a work around? Thanks.
