Voicemail not showing up as alert

I am new to iPhone (been using Android phones for over a decade), so still getting familiarize with iOS and iPhone.

I am having issues with voicemail, whenever someone leave a voicemail, my phone does not show the alert that there is a new voicemail. I was expecting a banner or alert or persistent message to show whether the phone is locked or not.

Without this only when I go to phone, i see small number in red in the voicemail category, only then I know I have a unread voicemail

I checked with my service provider H2O, they said they have reset the voicemail option and all is good from their side, they wanted me to take the phone to Apple store to check it.

Please let me know how to have an visual alert/banner show whenever I have a new voicemail. Last option I have to take it to the store to check it.

Hey there, NtiP2020.

It sounds like your voicemail notification is not set up how you’d like it. Notifications can be very important, so I understand your concern. I’d like to help out.

To check your notifications, navigate to Settings > Notifications > Phone. Here, you can select which alert style and consistency you’d like to receive the notification. Change notification settings on iPhone - Apple Support

I hope this helps. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.

Farewell.
