In case you have one of these old keyboards (I have one in storage myself) which really has no fn key, here is some info:

Ok. I am not talking about the MBP keyboard, but an Apple external keyboard. It has no FN key.
My my set up is three screens (MBP & 2 more) and an external keyboard.
Will send send a pic tomorrow.

Depending on the external Apple keyboard the "Fn" key may be on the right side. I'm not at my Mac, but IIRC on the extended keyboard with the numeric keypad I believe the "Fn" key near (or to the left of) the "Home" & "End" keys.
that’s correct:
Ahah! The top board above is mine with the fn key near the number pad. I never looked there - only looked at the lower LH corner.
BTW, The old KB with the plastic rim doesnt have an fn key. However, it has a row of single purpose F keys, so it doesnt need one.
Can... can I ask for a picture of your Apple keyboard? I think its impossible to get a keyboard from Apple without a FN key, it's like a PC manufacturer shipping a keyboard without a windows key entirely.
If you got an "Apple Keyboard" from a third party claiming its original it may be fake.

So what exactly does your keyboard have in place of the fn key shown below?
Thank you for the picture in advance.
For the record, both external Apple keyboards (purchasable on Apple.com) both have Fn keys:
