Why does this continue to happen ? System storage taking up nearly half of 15 GB storage

Hi,

I just recently reset and deleted all the data from my iPad Air 2 today due to this system storage issue.

Before I reset it I had experienced system storage taking up 12.3 GB of my 15 GB storage just before I cleared it so I could start fresh. But the issue continues to occur after a brand new install of the os and updated the iOS to 12.4.5.

This has happened on another device I use as well, this is causing me continued grief and slowing me down when I need to use these devices for work !

Why is this still happening ?

This looks perfect;y normal to me, too!

A 16 GBs iPad actually start out with less than 16 GBs ( approx. 15 GBs ).

The new iPadOS is a WHOLE LOT bigger data/file size, now, with all of the new features exclusive to iPad.

So, a typical iPadOS install with both iPadOS, itself, and all installed apps will take up between 5-7 GBs.

For iOS to work at a consistent, acceptable level, you need to maintain a minimum of between 2-3 GBs of internal free data storage space on that iPad, at all times, also.

So, this you are only left with maybe between 3-5 GBs of actual usable internal storage on your 16 GBs iPad, now and that is it!

This is why 3-4 years, ago Apple quietly and silently ( in a quiet admission ) that 16 GBs iOS devices, later on, did not have enough usable internal storage space to do much of anything.

Sorry, it is what it is, now!

You might want to consider purchasing a new iPad from Apple or a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple’s Website or from a trusted reputable Apple product reseller/dealer.

OR

Find another trusted, reputable seller of used iPads and look for larger storage version options, like a 32 or 64 GBs storage iPad.

A 32 GBs today, will offer you approx. between 18-20 GBs of actual usable storage, after a full iOS installation, which is approx. 5 times the amount of usable,, free internal data storage space that your current iPad has now!

A 64 GBs storage model, today, will leave you with approx. 46-48 GBs of actual, usable data storage space, after a full iPadOS install.

A 128 GBs storage model, today, will have approx. between 106-108 GBs of usable data storage after a full iPadOS install.

A 256 GBs storage model, today, will have approx. between 226-228 GBs of usable data storage after a full iPadOS install.

You get the idea.

Best of Luck to You!
