Hi 👋. I previously had my iPhones under my wife’s user account but have now got my own account with my own password. This is find for most apps since the change over but some like Messenger it prompts to my wife’s Account which as mentioned I don’t use anymore so can’t update the Messenger App. Could you please help to resolve. I just want to update Messenger without losing all my historic data/chats etc. Kind regards Bri
To change to your Apple ID in Messages/Messenger, you will probably lose all previous data because it is associated with your wife's ID.
When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
