I have a Sony HD video tape recorder. The footnote indicates that tape recorders should be connected to a firewire port. There isn't one the iMac. Does anyone have a suggestion on an alternative connection?

Then perhaps we can connect you up with the correct adapter(s) to make a FireWire connection.
Do you have the cameras micro FireWire to FireWire 400 cable?
If you do, then all you need is three other adapters.

It is 2017 year model. Retina 27". It has 4 USB 3 ports and 2 Thunderbolt 3 (UB-C) ports. The camera has a micro firewire connect
