iPad 10.2 as 2nd monitor with HDMI to Lightning?

I am a location/landscape photographer looking to use my new iPad 10.2 to view images from my camera and/or drone in the field. Both devices have HDMI out. And I see there is an HDMI to Lightning connector available. What I don't know if whether the Lightning port on the iPad 10.2 is configured to allow data/image transfer.

The same devices also have wifi. Can images be transferred to the iPad via wifi?

Thanks

iPad, iOS 9
