how to fix input/output error

hi,

i have an os x yosemite (version 10.10.5) macbook pro 15-inch from late 2011


i am having trouble trying to update to mac os x, every time i try to install it, it comes up with "Warning. The following disk images couldn't be opened" for the reason "input/output error".


i want to update to mac os x so i can be able to update to itunes 10.11.4 or later so i can use my iphone with itunes and i am not allowed to use itunes because "to use your iphone with itunes, you need to install os x 10.11.4 (or later)" keeps popping up.


please help me, and if you need me to attach screenshots please tell me

Input output errors usually mean data integrity damage.

Backup your data.

Then see if you can verify the health of your drive, with Binary Fruit's DriveDX

If it is healthy, then it is the image file alone that is bad, and you need to find a better source.

If it is showing any signs of wear, now is the time to migrate to a new hard drive for your computer.
