apple id verification/update

Recently, I have changed my Apple ID on both my MacBook Air and my iPhone 11.

I have a notification in my settings and system preferences that tells me I need to "update Apple ID Settings, some account services will not be available until you sign in again"

Every time I click this and enter my password for the ID, nothing happens and that notification continues. I have tried restarting both devices, and have signed out and signed back in on both, as well.

Have you tried signing out, then restarting, and then signing back in? That has worked for some people, but not everyone.
