Shuts Down Randomly When Inactive But Then Quietly Reboots Itself

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2546

Model A1419 / Late 2012 / 2.9 GHz Core i5

It happens randomly daily. The Mac shuts itself down… so far only it only occurs when idle. The screen goes black. You don’t hear the chime or rebooting sounds associated with startup. When I slightly touch the power button as you would to wake the computer out of sleep… the grey start-up screen appears and begins to load the desktop. On the desktop a notification states that the computer shutdown unexpectedly with the option to either cancel or report the incident to apple. I have checked the Console App system.log immediately after shutdown to see if I can identify the cause for the failure.

The following is the Console System.Log’s notation:

Jan 31 21:19:29 localhost com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.opendirectoryd): Unknown key for Boolean: BeginTransactionAtShutdown

Jan 31 21:19:29 localhost com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.cups.cupsd): Service has increased maximum shutdown time to 65 seconds. This will create a poor experience for the user.

Initially I thought it might be a partial power supply failure… but I wonder now if it isn’t a software matter. I have performed both an SMC and PRAM without success.

Would appreciate any knowledgeable input. Can supply any further information/screen captures that might help identify the problem.

Thank you for your time with this.

Alex

Sophos & Apple's own.

I\d remove Sophos per their directions.

Delete these files...

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/jp.co.canon.Inkjet_Extended_Survey_Agent.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.adobe.ARM.***.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.userhelper.protect.update.plist

Safe Boot...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

~ tilde indicates hidden Home Library.

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

1 From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.

2 In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Method 2:

1 Go to the Finder (or desktop).

2 Hold the Option key on your keyboard, and click the Go menu at the top of the screen.

3 With the Go menu open, you'll notice that pressing and releasing Option will display or hide the Library choice in this menu.

4 Select Library from the Go menu (while holding down Option) to access the hidden folder.

Great work, not sure which it points to either, but if a Reinstall doesn't fix it then we'd lean for a HW problem
