Rebooting & Touch Bar Crashes after Ventura update

Hey Everyone,

After updating to Ventura, my Mac Pro 2019 occasionally restarts after a suspected problem while on sleep mode and the touch bar disappears. I keep sending the crash report to Apple so hopefully on the next update they can fix the issue.

For the moment what works is that I have to keep reseting the SMC but it's such a pain, and it keeps rebooting every so often

Mac Pro 2019 does not have a Touch Bar but the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) - Technical Specifications (CA) or the MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) does .

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drives from loading

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Hey Everyone!

A quick update, I brought to a verified apple repair store and they changed the hardware and everything. Ventura is definitely the culprit. I told them to downgrade to Monterey and I have had no Issue since the last time I brought it in early December.

Advice: Please Downgrade and don't update until Apple fix their software, make a copy of Monterey OS on the virtual machine and until the times comes to upgrade, if the issue presists at least you know Monterey works fine.

Same issue after ventura 13.2 upgrade. The device crashes and goes into a restart loop when I try to wake it up from sleep and its connected to an external display. I get into the safe mode fine. And on occasion if I restart after safe mode then it logs back into normal mode but thats like 1 in 25, other times just goes into restart loop. Tried disk utility check, reinstallation of OS and the usual smc/pram reset. Nothing concrete, the apple diagnostic did not find any hardware issue. I am assuming as soon as I take it to the shop they will find all components having problem and recommend a replacement (ripoff). I an using a macbook pro 2017, definitely the new os version is the culprit, nothing else had been changed on the device and it has been up-to-date on all apps.

Thanks for update.

Kernel Panic generally are Hardware related issue or possibly Kernel Extensions installed and used on the computer

To get a good look at both Hardware and Software on this machine - Step 7 above would be recommended

That or Post a Full Output to the Kernel Panic Report.

Then wait for a More Senior Contributors who knows what to look for the that Kernel Panic Report

I'm having the exact same issue on my Macbook Pro 2019 (2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD).

This started happening to me after the last update to Ventura 13.1 (22C65).

I erased the whole computer yesterday and reinstalled the computer. I have a feeling that the problem started again after installing python (via miniconda) or after installing VS Code.

In order to maybe rule this option out, any change you have python or VS Code installed on your device?

Thanks,

S

Thanks for the reply P.Philips. Yes sorry it's a 2019 13" Mac Pro 4 thunderbolts. I will try it later on. I think I know what actually happens.

The Mac shuts down while on sleep mode and every time I open/turn on the general report gets created. I saw that this was an issue on previous OS versions but hopefully apple can get a fix for this

Hey P. Phillips

An update: after completing step 7 there is an issue with Bad Magic in the crash report. The kernel panics kept happening even after a full re-install of the MacOS so I guess it is a problem with Hardware, the touch bar disappears occasionally aswell. I did bring it to a certified apple service shop to repair the Mac under warranty.

Thanks for the help.

Update: After updating The MacOS software from Big Sur to Ventura again the Kernel Panics started happening again after changing the hardware!

Problem: Kernel Panics happen randomly + while on sleep/hibernate mode and computer reboots. I have had to change lock screen to never for a work-around. Apple need to sort this out in their next update ASAP. I can't send my laptop back as I need it for work.

Also the Touch Bar ID randomly disappears and have to manually manage the sound/brightness. Such a Pain!
