USB external Pluscom drive invisible
My Pluscom drive is where I have stored a lot of precious photos which seem to have vanished from Photos. However, Pluscom won't show up on my desktop (MacBook Pro 2015 Catalina).

From help given on another thread, the solution was RESETTING THE NVRAM :
How to reset NVRAM
Shut down or restart your Mac, turn it on and immediately hold down these four keys together: Option, Command, P, and R. Keep pressing these keys for a minimum of 20 seconds. It might look like your Mac restarts.
It takes two minutes, if that, including Restart. However, two computer shops in my home town offered to sort the problem by other means costing £35 or £60 respectively. I was going to pay either of them depending on how I felt about trusting them with my data.
Thanks. I have now ticked the CDs and Connected Servers boxes but that has not helped although maybe I should go through the restart reset routine again with those boxes ticked (or "checked" as Americans say).
It lights up green, the drive is spinning but it does not appear in Disk Utility. A computer service shop tried it on another Mac a Mojave one and it was invisible.
I THOUGHT I HAD THE SOLUTION AND APPLE RECOMMENDED MY SOLUTION BUT IT IS NOT WORKING TONIGHT. I HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY. Capitalisation = anger.
Make sure the Finder preferences are the same as shown in this screenshot:
