USB-A Superdrive support in Ventura?

The Apple USB superDrive draws 900 milliAmps. A typical USB port on a Dock supplies 500 milliAmps.
It MUST be connected to a USB port on the chassis to have any hope of working.
You can see the amount desired and amount supplied for each device in:

sorry, but you spoke with someone that is mistaken. I can assure you that there are MANY users here using the superdrive on M1 (M2) Macs without issue. is yours connected through a dock or hub? it will not work that way.
I just came here because I was having the same problem. I realized what was happening was the pop-up that asks for permission for device to connect was only appearing for a few milliseconds and then disappearing. I tried plugging in the Superdrive a few times and eventually the pop-up stayed visible and I was able to give permission for it to connect. I had this same thing happen with accessories through a Hyperdrive hub I use. Seems like some kind of bug that makes the permission pop-up disappear.
since you previously had Catalina running, that means we are talking about an intel Mac. yes?
if correct, then I think in your situation, I would try and reset the SMC as well as the NVRAM. please see these apple support pages:
How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
I'm on a 2022 Mac Studio Ventura 13.2.1 and the Superdrive works plugged into the USB A on the rear, no problem. It didn't appear on the desktop until a CD was inserted, but it did appear in System Report as being connected. It didn't work thru USB A on my Satechi Hub. I haven't tried a USB C adapter, I figured there was enough discussion about people having issues.
It will not be mounted on the desktop or viewable in Disk Utility until a disc is inside.
Before that, it is a vacant mechanism, but that mechanism should be visible as a USB device on the pane I mentioned. Is it seen there?
My dad his superdrive is working flawlessly on Ventura. Make sure to connect it to an port on your computer tho, not on a dock
I purchased a Superdrive and it ran perfectly on my 2015 iMac, even in Monterey. Recently upgraded to a new iMac with the M1 chip and OS Ventura. Doesn't work. Told by Apple Support that the Superdrive is incompatible. Getting really tired of Apple's lack of compatibility across their entire line.
I don't know what to say. but there are definitely people using them with many different M1 machines on Ventura. they do in fact work on M1 iMacs on Ventura 13.1. i know for sure that the person who told you they don't work on those machines is flat out wrong. just because they work for apple doesn't mean that they know everything. no-one can know everything.
are you using the apple branded USB-C to USB Adapter? I have seen one case where a user was using a third party adapter that wouldn't allow it to work.
The Superdrive works fine when directly connected to my MBP 16" i9 (2019). I use a 5 EUR connection converter between the Superdrive's USB-A male plug and either one of the Macbook's USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 female ports.

yes, that's a known issue. in almost every case, the superdrive will not work through a hub or dock. I have seen one hub from OWC that they claims to be superdrive compatible. and since it is OWC saying that, I tend to believe it. but I don't remember the exact model hub it is, as I wouldn't want to recommend a $150 USD hub just to connect a superdrive. :)

Thank you for your help, but the USB-A Superdrive worked well on my MacBook Pro with macOS Catalina before I installed macOS Ventura. I do not think the problem relates to the power requirements of the Superdrive... And I am not using a dock. I plug the USB-A superdrive into an apple USB-A to USB-C adapter so that it will plug into my MacBook Pro. The superdrive makes a brief sound when I plug it in now, but it will not accept a CD disk and the drive is not recognized in the Apple Music app or in the disk utility.
The superdrive previously would pull in CD's when I inserted them, now it does not. And when I go to menu > about this Mac > (System Report) > USB pane, I do not see the external USB Superdrive listed...
I can see two "USB 3.1 Bus" lines which appear to correspond to the 2 ports on the mac. I have tried plugging the Superdrive into each of them and it is not recognized in either. I have also tried restarting the mac which did not fix the problem.
I did see a thread which said macOS Ventura does not support USB-A. That may be the root cause.
I am wondering if anyone else has this problem?
