The only way I know is in a Page Header or Page Footer in Print Setup.

Click in a Page Header or Page Footer and Menu > Insert > Date & Time.

Click again to see this:

Click on the Calendar icon, bottom right.

Available only in Print Setup, as far as I know.

Edit: I tested in a table cell. Click twice in a table cell to place the insertion cursor in that cell.

Hi slidermichael,

It may not be relevant to you but if you use iOS Numbers, forms have a nice keyboard for date entry. It is my preferred method on iCloud spreadsheets.

Feature not supported.

You can Provide Numbers Feedback to Apple, making a Feature Enhancement Request, using the Provide Numbers Feedback item in the Numbers menu.
