I just bought a new MacBook Air which is a 2017 model. When I tried to upgrade it to the Catalina OS, which is the first thing I did after set-up, the machine says I may not Install it to the HD because it is currently being encrypted. Where am I supposed to install it?

You will either have to turn off encryption or wait until it is completed.

Even if you want to turn off encryption, you will have to wait until the encryption has completed.

Caution: And, if you decide to turn encryption off, once it's completed, it will take about the same amount of time (possibly a day or more) to decrypt the drive.

Note: The process only runs when the Mac is powered on and is on AC power.

OK, thanks. I didn’t realize encryption was a temporary process (or a process at all on a HD). I have been a PC user and have never run into this before. I am fine with waiting a day or two until encryption is complete. Thanks again!
