deleted app has an update that blocks me from reinstalling it

I deleted an app and was planning to reinstall it because it seemed that it had some problems, and when I go into the App Store, it says that it needs an update even though it's been deleted? I'm not sure how to fix this since I've checked in my storage that any trace of the app has been removed.
