when someone is at my door or motion is detected, the ring app (all do this but this one is particularly important) takes forever to load that by the time the app opens, the person at the door has left.
I do have background refresh on.
the main reason to have this type of security is to be able to conveniently use it. This does not happen on android phones so why is it happening on iPhones??

Ring app isn't an Apple app. You can ask Ring or look at their support site.
It’s not an android app either but it works properly on an android. I have an Apple iPhone and it needs to work on my phone. Hence it is an Apple issue. All my apps are slow to come up.
Is that what the Ring developer said when you contacted them?
Wasted your time replying to me when you couldn't done what I suggested.
It is a known issue with iPhones and ring doorbells and yes I did contact them
