Hi, I've read some other people who have mentioned they have fans sunning constantly on their new iMac. Is this a feature or a fault because it's really distracting and noisy and mine os only 2 weeks old! Not at all happy with this for £1.5k.

The fan always runs at a low default speed when the iMac is on.
If it is running at high speed, try resetting the SMC.

If that does not fix the high speed fan problem or the fan is noisy at the lower default speed?
Then make make an appointment to have the iMac looked at. Also please note, that you have a 14 day no questions asked return window, if you purchased it directly from Apple or an Apple Authorized Retailer.

Boot into Safe Mode (Use Safe Mode to isoloate issues with your Mac and Playing Safe: what does Safe Mode do?). Does the problem persist? Reboot normally and check again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
In addition I would recommend doing the SMC reset several times, doing it just one time does not always work. I would also recommend disconnecting all external peripherals (HDs, USB printers, USB scanners, etc...) when doing a SMC reset a peripheral can be a source of high fan speeds if it is not functioning correctly.
Hi many thanks for your reply. My fan runs even when the device is in sleep mode which I find concerning. Is this normal as this can only reduce the useful life off the component I would assume.
