What if disabled iPad needs updated before a restore?

My IPad is disabled and will not let me restore when plugged into my Mac because it says the iPad needs updated. Any suggestions?

Read here If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
