MacBook Pro 16 2019 needs reboot every time to sidecar connect to iPad Pro 10.5

When the MacBook Pro is rebooted it connects with sidecar for the first time. Subsequent attempts to sidecar keep returning the message "Unable to connect to iPad Pro - A miscellaneous error occurred (-6745)". Wireless or wired makes no difference. Can anybody shed any light on this?
