I have a android phone but want to iMessage people from my iPad can I do that?

I have an android phone but want to iMessage people from my iPad can I do that without interfering with the texts to my android phone?

You can, however once you turn on and activate iMessage, any iOS users will send messages from iMessage and they will only be received on your iPad, and they will be with your Apple ID email, since you cannot associate your phone number with iMessage. And, if they send to you in iMessage, you will not get any kind of notification on your phone, so if you don't have the iPad with you, or it is not connected to data, you will miss message notifications.
