Phone back up still taking up space

I have deleted my Iphone backup from my laptop but it is still saying my computer is full. The phone back up was enormous. Is there a memory of this data on my time machine I need to wipe?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.12

Did you empty the Trash?

Have you connected your Backup Drive and allowed Time machine to run ? (to unload local backups and free up space on your boot drive).
