Text message not deleted - ??

I deleted a text message yesterday. Today, I had the battery replaced in my phone and when I turned it back on, that text message came back. So, it was not really deleted even though I pressed the "Delete" button. Where was it, and how can I delete text messages PERMANENTLY? Thanks.

I think you didn't read my question very carefully. Let me try wording it another way. Here is what happened:

  • I deleted a text message. I did that by swiping to the right and tapping "Delete" . The message then disappeared. To me, that should mean that the message is gone permanently, never to be seen again.
  • The next day, I had the battery changed.
  • The message reappeared.

So my question has nothing to do the content of the message or whether I should save it or not. My questions are:

  1. WHY did the message come back after the battery was changed, and
  2. What do i have to do to PERMANENTLY delete the message?
