What is the optimal setting when picking sound output for a single HomePod?

When playing sound through Airplay to my HomePod what is the optimal output setting to choose for it? Ex. Mono, Stereo, Surround, 5.1, etc. I expect anything 5.1 and above isn't a good choice, but possibly Surround?

I'm not sure what the difference is between the generic Surround format and say 7.1 besides the fact that 7.1 has a defined 7 channels and a subwoofer. Perhaps Surround is for trying to digitally represent additional channels when there is in fact only one speaker?

Are you meaning volume levels? There isn’t much else you can select for it’s sound besides volume and SoundCheck. The HomePods are designed to adjust to their surroundings and surfaces. Try moving them around to test the difference.

For optimum sound:

Place HomePod on a solid surface, anywhere in the room. Make sure that it's 6 - 12 inches away from any wall or corner with at least 6 inches of space around it. HomePod senses where it's placed, then automatically analyzes the acoustics in the room, steering music in the optimal direction.

stereo (2 HomePods) is much better and louder. Airplaying is never as loud as just asking Siri to play music.

Stereo is true stereo that will send different instruments and vocals left or right or both.
