Reset ipad

My iPad is associated with an old work phone and account that no longer exists. Therefore I am not able to add apps as the password no longer works. How can I reset this so I am able to add apps.

If you cannot recall the AppleID and associated password used to set-up the device - and the associated email mailbox is no longer accessible to you, your options are somewhat limited.

If you know the AppleID and password, you can login directly to the account and change the associated email address:

https://appleid.apple.com

If you don’t recall the password for the AppleID, you can reset the password for the account if you can access the reset-link that will be sent to the associated email mailbox:

https://iforgot.apple.com

Similarly, if you have access to the associated email mailbox, but recall neither the AppleID or password, the same link allows you to recover the AppleID. This will also work if you had the foresight to associate one or more telephone numbers with the account - where an SMS or voice message can be received.

If you have no recollection of, of access to, any of the above - then you’re just about out of luck. Your only remaining option is to produce an original purchase receipt - and prove to the satisfaction of Apple that you are the original owner of the device.

Otherwise, you’re done.
