I cannot access word now I have upgraded to the new sierra ..any solutions ?

It sounds like you upgraded to Catalina 10.15.3 not High Sierra. If you have Office or Word 2011, you'll need to upgrade either to Word 365 or Word 2019.

Look into the Free LibreOffice, it handles MS Office files…
