Mimic Google Routines in iOS Shortcuts
I have a cheap Google Home and have setup their default "Good Morning" routine such that it:
- Tells me the weather
- Tells me about my commute
- Tells me about today's calendar
- Tells me if I have any reminders
- Sets the volume of the device
- Plays a News Podcast (latest podcast of the CBC News This Hour)
I'm trying to create this in Shortcuts but boy is this complex. I have to build each piece. The weather itself is 2 grabs of data from the Weather app to tell me different aspects of the weather and when I ask for a forecast it tells me temperatures for the next 7 days... (so I still don't have that right). The playing of a podcast is also troublesome because it wants to play all episodes since the last one I played. I only want the current one.
The Google One is not very flexible (it only does a preset list of things that are either enabled or not).
There is also a very big annoyance with the Siri voice. My Siri is set to Canadian English. This doesn't seem to be in the list, so the other Canada voice is French and all my speaking commands default to this and I have actually go change these to US English.
I get that this is super flexible given the small pieces to build something grand, but the Google routine took minutes to setup once I told it my work location and which podcast to play, but the Apple version is so crazy complex that this is way harder than it should be.
Am I suppose to perhaps string together the pieces from the Gallery? Is this possible? Is there an online guide for how to effectively use Shortcuts?
