Add an email attachment in Mail on iCloud.com

You can attach one or more files to a message. If you want to attach files that are too large to send in email, you can use Mail Drop.

Add an attachment

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, at the top of the message window, click the Choose Files button .
  2. Select the files you want to attach, then follow the onscreen instructions to begin uploading the files.
  3. If your attachments are too large to send in email, you are asked if you want to deliver the attachments using Mail Drop. If you agree and Mail Drop is turned on, the attachments are uploaded to iCloud.
  4. It may take some time for the upload to complete, depending on the size of the files.
  5. To attach more files, repeat steps 1 and 2.

Remove an attachment

  • In Mail on iCloud.com, in the message window, hold the pointer above the attachment, then click the Remove icon .
  • You can only remove an attachment before you send the message.

You cannot remove files already sent with Mail Drop. They expire after 30 days.

Turn on Mail Drop for large attachments

Mail Drop uploads large attachments to iCloud, where they are encrypted and stored for up to 30 days. See the Apple Support article Mail Drop limits for Mail Drop limits and system requirements. Recipients can download Mail Drop attachments for 30 days after they are sent.

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click the Action pop-up menu  in the sidebar, then choose Preferences.
  2. If you do not see the sidebar, see Show or hide the sidebar in Mail on iCloud.com.
  3. Click Composing, then select 'Use Mail Drop when sending large attachments'.
  4. Click Done.
