AirPods case not charging problem

I have tried over and over to get my AirPods (gen1) to charge, the AirPods them self charge in the case no problem, but the case is weird, when you plug it in to a lighting cable, the case light turns amber as if it was charging, but on my phone screen, it does not show that it is charging and I have tried to let it charge overnight with no results, I have also tried the trick where you hold down the case button, still no fix. I am asking if I need to replace it or if there is a way to fix it
