airpods case not charging

when i plug in my airpods, the charging case light flashes as though it’s charging, though when connected to my phone it does not tell me the accurate charge of the case, nor does it display a charging symbol. i can tell my case is charging, as it hasn’t died at all and has been useable for several days on several recharging occasions. i have reset my airpods multiple times, used different outlets including my laptop, connected to different devices, cleaned out the ports, everything. any ideas as to what i should do? thanks.
