MacBook Pro 16" 2019 Bootcamp/Windows Media Driver and Audio/Drivers Fix

So instead of this being a question, I am providing a solution/fix to users out there having problems installing Windows on their MacBook Pro 16".

What you need: USB external keyboard and mouse - 4GB(MIN) thumb drive

NOTE: Once you boot into the Windows Installation, you will need to use your external mouse and keyboard.

  1. First error could be that bootcamp refuses to recognize your Windows ISO as a valid 64bit copy. To fix this, many say that you should download the 1909 Windows ISO directly from Microsoft. I was not able to do that as I'm located in China and the download speed is like 50kbs. So I used other sources to find Window ISO files. So try to get your hand on several newer versions of the ISO.
  2. The only thing you will need bootcamp for is to download the drivers. So open bootcamp, go to up to the top left and under the Action tab, click download Windows Support Software and save it on your hard drive as you see fit. Once it's done, find a thumb drive and format (maybe this doesn't matter, but this is what I did) it to ExFat. You name call it Support Then copy the whole Windows Support Folder to it.
  3. Head over to disk utility and partition the root drive using the space amount that you would like for your Windows hard drive. The format of this partition should be NFTS. If that is not an option, then I'll have to come back and update this, as I did see NFTS as an option. You can name it BOOTCAMP
  4. Create another partition just as step 3 but format it as ExFAT. You can name it Windows10(or anything). Now, double click on the ISO that you want to try your luck with. It will open an uneditable mounted drive. Copy the content to the root of the Windows 10 partition. Then copy that Windows Support Folder to the root of the Windows10 partition as well.(I'm not sure if this helps, but it is what I did)
  5. Now you should be ready to install it. Plug in the Support thumb drive you made. Shut down the computer, then press the power button, then immediately hold the option key as usual to get to your boot options. Click on Windows and press enter. Now once set up begins it should give you some type of "Media driver" error. Click OK. Clock browse and hopefully you are able to find the Support thumb drive listed there. Open the folders like this Windows Support/$WinPEDriver$/
  6. You will see, AppleUSBVHCI. Click/or double click this folder and press okay/browse(I've forgotten exactly). It should list one driver now. Click next. You should get the same error, but your mouse and keyboard should be working now(if not, just continue anyway). Now do the same thing as step 5 again, but this time click the AppleSSD64 folder. It should list one driver as well. Click next.
  7. If your errors were the same as mine, you should have passed that previous step successfully. Now just continue and click Custom Install. Find your BOOTCAMP drive/partition and install it Windows there (click format if you cannot continue). Please be careful and make sure you ONLY format your BOOTCAMP drive. Leave the other drives ALONE.
  8. If all went well you should be at the Windows desktop after a few restarts. Now you need to install Bootcamp software and drivers. Drag the Windows Support Folder from your thumb drive to the desk top. Go inside the Windows Support/BootCamp/ folder. And double click install. Screen will flicker and may take a few minutes to install. It will ask you to restart. Do it.
  9. You should be back at the Windows Desktop now. You may notice that the sound isn't working. Actually, maybe several things aren't working properly, but sound was the most obvious one. Use the Windows search to go to Device Manager. And check through all this items to see if there are any errors. If so, just choose to install/update the driver manually. All you will need to do is to go to the $WinPEDriver$ folder and it should find it for you. If not, go deeper into the folder and find the ones you are missing/looking for.
  10. At this point, everything should be perfect!

Forgive me if any of this is vague. I just wanted to post this as soon as possible. I bought my MacBook Pro two weeks ago and have been frustrated that I couldn't get it working. I gave it a few days break, then with a clear mind, I went back to it and got it done on the first try. I hope it goes well for any users that tries my guide!

Godspeed,

Jemal Russell

Yes, most of the time it gave me the errors about not having a 64bit ISO file. I remember it once working, but then it gave me an error right before Windows Installed, although I can't exactly remember what the error was. The guide I mentioned above was the only way I was able to install Windows. Bootcamp literally never worked.
