(iPad) Word docs blank when opened through files

Recently I’ve found that Word docs saved to my files are blank. I can only access the saved text if I open them through the Microsoft Word “recent” function. It appears that there are two files under the same title: the populated documents, which are saved on the iPad itself, and the blank documents, which are saved via Files/iCloud. Any insight on this?
