Anybody else having this problem and if so any suggestions on how to fix it.
Recently when I click on a link in mail, Twitterific and some other sites all I get is the spinning beachball which shows that the application is not responding.I then have to force quit the app.
Not very tech minded(pensioner) so would appreciate any walkthrough fixes that the more savvy Mac users may have.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Thanks for your suggestion.I tried it in 'Safe Mode' and lost the sound on my Mac.After a bit of frantic searching I learned that it does not work in SM. On a brighter side,your suggestion worked fine and I am grateful for your help.SM must purge some of the bad things that go on in the background.

As stated above, not very confident using the Mac. Do I switch it off and then hold the shift key down as I press the button at the back.Also, how do I get back to the normal mode, assuming I can get into safe mode.
